Or Die Trying is an interdisciplinary dance chronicle by choreographer and sociologist Alida Dors. An energetic performance in which dance, Thai boxing and film projection complement each other. A performance for the dreamers and fighters among us.
As a Surinamese immigrant, Alida's father fought literally and figuratively for a better life. In his own boxing school, through Thai boxing, he propagated a mentality of growth, flexibility, collection and never giving up.
Fighting spirit is passed down from generation to generation in many different ways, which inspired Alida to create Or Die Trying. In the rhythm of the fight, dancers and thaiboks fight their own limits. How far are they willing to go? Is giving up an option? In the tension of ambition, expectations, self-discipline and self-destruction, they seek their own way. Become the Best You, Or Die Trying.
As always, Alida creates an adventurous interdisciplinary dance chronicle with influences from hip-hop and modern dance - socially and politically aware, urgent and relevant.
