The hip-hop dance company BackBone creates relevant and urgent work rooted in the core values of hip-hop. Intensity, authenticity in performance, grounded choreography, and bold storytelling are central to our practice. Our productions are raw and profound, aiming to provoke audiences and encourage them to reflect on their role in society.
BackBone was founded in 2012 by Alida Dors. After Alida transitioned to Theater Rotterdam, Donna Chittick took over as artistic director at the end of 2022.
