For the new dance production Sessions, BackBone and Likeminds are looking for performers and interns who want to contribute through their individuality, physicality and personal experiences to a performance about identity, performance pressure and the feeling of constantly having to prove yourself.
ABOUT SESSIONS
Sessions is a physical and poetic dance performance inspired by the energy of a hiphop battle. Five performers move between bravado and vulnerability in a performance about identity, performance pressure and the feeling of constantly having to prove yourself. Dance, music and text come together in a theatrical battle where winning is not the focus, but staying grounded and allowing yourself to be seen.
ABOUT BACKBONE & LIKEMINDS
BackBone and Likeminds collaborate on Sessions from a shared vision on autodidacticism, talent development and personal storytelling. BackBone creates performances at the intersection of hiphop culture and theatre, where dance, music and identity come together. Likeminds is a development space for multi-voiced makers from different disciplines. With Sessions, they bring together hiphop, text and theatre in a physical and poetic performance.
Within this production, self-taught dancers, mbo students and academically trained performers work together.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
For Sessions, we are looking for performers and interns with a strong physical presence and their own movement language.
We are looking for performers who:
- Have a strong foundation in hiphop styles: popping, locking, hiphop and house;
- Are rooted in battle culture (this is a must!);
- Have experience with freestyle;
- Dare to move from both vulnerability and strength;
- Can work independently, but also function within a group;
- Are available during the rehearsal and touring periods:
o December 7 until December 18, 2026 (rehearsals)
o January 4 until February 13, 2027 (rehearsals, technical rehearsals & performances)
o February 17 until April 9 and August 2027 (performances)
We strongly encourage self-taught performers, mbo graduates/students and performers from diverse cultural backgrounds to audition. Full-time availability is required and this is a paid production.
PRACTICAL AUDITION INFORMATION
The audition consists of one round. On Monday June 15, you will receive an email informing you whether you are invited for the audition.
- Audition date & time: Saturday June 20, 2026, from 10:00 – 16:00
- Location: Likeminds, Gedempt Hamerkanaal 203, 1021 KP Amsterdam
- Registration: you can apply for the auditions until Friday June 12 at the latest. On Monday June 15, you will hear whether you are invited for the auditions.
- Friday June 26 is the final announcement whether you are selected for the production
